Ramtron International Corporation is the leading supplier of nonvolatile ferroelectric semiconductors, including serial and parallel ferroelectric random access memory (F-RAM) devices and Processor Companion devices that integrate a variety of commonly needed discrete analog and mixed-signal functions for processor-based systems.
Ramtron is a publicly traded company (Nasdaq: RMTR) with corporate headquarters located in Colorado Springs, Colorado and dedicated design, sales and application support offices located worldwide. We are a fabless company that has strategic partnerships with leading memory producers in the U.S. and Asia.
Ramtron was founded in 1984 as a research and development company to develop ferroelectric technology for use in semiconductor memories. From 1984 to late 1992, Ramtron's team of talented designers researched and developed ferroelectric materials that were compatible with standard CMOS semiconductor fabrication processes.
Between 1993 and 1997, Ramtron built its current headquarters and began operating a pilot-line F-RAM production fab. Once complete, the sale of Ramtron's ferroelectric memory products began and the company began licensing its F-RAM technology to top semiconductor firms.
When Ramtron's first licensee, Rohm Electronics, reached production in 1998, Ramtron ceased commercial manufacturing in its own facility and began operating as a fabless semiconductor company. Ramtron continues to use its facility for leading edge F-RAM research and development activities with various co-development partners.
Today, Ramtron is a growing fabless chip company. The company sells unique high-performance products to electronics OEMs around the world, and maintains licensing and manufacturing partnerships with leading semiconductor manufacturers. Ramtron’s commercial F-RAM products are manufactured at strategic foundries in the U.S. and Japan, with plans to expand the source of manufacturing supply for our products
